Crafting Devotion, Celebrating Sustainability
Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idol-Making Workshop by LAD College & Chhoo Le Aasman NGO
In today’s fast-paced world, where traditions are often overshadowed by convenience, a heartwarming initiative stood out—one that blended devotion, art, and sustainability. On 13th September 2023, a unique Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idol-Making Workshop was organized by LAD College, Nagpur, in association with Chhoo Le Aasman NGO.
This meaningful event aimed to reintroduce students to the rich, environment-friendly aspects of Indian festivals and encouraged them to create something with their own hands, hearts, and values. The event was a celebration of creativity, spirituality, and environmental consciousness, all rolled into one.

A Festival of Clay, Culture & Consciousness
With Ganesh Chaturthi around the corner, excitement filled the air as students rolled up their sleeves to mold idols of Lord Ganesha using Shadu mitti, a natural clay traditionally used for crafting idols. The soft texture of the clay and the sanctity of the process brought immense joy and a sense of connection to their roots.
This workshop was more than just an art session. It was an immersive experience where the students learned about:
-
The significance of eco-friendly celebrations
-
The impact of Plaster of Paris idols on aquatic life and ecosystems
-
The importance of returning to sustainable practices
Each idol sculpted was a symbol of love and reverence—and a commitment to protecting Mother Earth.
Creativity That Echoed Devotion
The students, most of whom had never sculpted before, poured their creativity and emotions into every curve and detail of their handmade idols. The results were astonishing. From symbolic representations to detailed artistic renditions, each Ganpati idol had a unique story.
It was heartening to watch young minds discovering joy in creating something from scratch, building patience, focus, and appreciation for tradition.
As the event concluded, students were thrilled to take their handmade Ganesha idols home—not just as festive decorations, but as personal creations shaped by love, care, and eco-awareness.
